Where does the race start and finish?
The event begins when you board the boat at London Quay in Picton. After an early morning cruise to Anakiwa the race begins at Anakiwa wharf and finishes in front of the restaurant at Lochmara Lodge.
How much does it cost to enter?
The race fee is $110 and includes your boat ride to and from the event.
How long will the event take?
David Haunschmidt (2023 winner) polished it off in 1 hour 21 whilst others ran/walked the course in nearer to 3 hours 30 .
What time does the boat leave Picton?
7.00 am from Beachcomber wharf, Picton marina. We cannot wait for late arrivals.
Where is the race briefing? The race briefing will be given to you by our Race Director on the wharf on arrival at Anakiwa. On your cruise to the start line at Anakiwa our Race Crews will sign you in and give you your race number.
What time does the race start?
8.30 am at Anakiwa Wharf.
Do I have to go on the Beachcomber boat or can I make my own way to Anakiwa?
Yes you can make you own way to Anakiwa. However, the price of entry remains the same and you will need to make your own way back to Anakiwa. If you are arriving at the start line by vehicle be at the Anakiwa wharf at 8.00am. and walk the length of the wharf to join in the briefing as soon as the Beachcomber arrives Please advise us by email if this is your plan.
Where is prize giving?
Prize giving is held at Lochmara Lodge
What time will I be back in Picton?
You will return to Picton around 2.30pm following the prize giving at Lochmara Lodge
Can my supporters come with me?
Yes. Supporters are welcome to accompany you on the boat and then stay on the boat to Lochmara Lodge and wait for you there. The price for supporters is $30 per adult (16 years and over), $10 per child 6 – 15 years and free for children 5 and under. Your supporters must book their place in advance using the online entry form. Spaces are limited.
Is the event open to walkers as well as runners?
The walk section is open to all competitors who consider they cannot complete the half marathon course within the 3 hours 30 minute cut off time. You will be started and timed from the Anakiwa Wharf at the same time as the runners, however by deleting the 3km loop around Tirimoana and instead journeying north direct to the Lodge, you will make it to Lochmara Lodge within our time limits. You will have the same opportunities to win spot prizes and fun prizes as everyone on the adventure.
Where and when to register?
Registrations are online only and close on Friday 1st November 2024 or when we have reached our limit. There will be no registration on the day.
Is there an age limit for entry?
Competitors must be over 15 years old and under 120 years old!
Can I leave a bag anywhere on race day?
Yes you can. Once you have started the race your discarded gear will be carried from the start line back to the Beachcomber boat. Please bring a suitable kit bag to place these items in and zip it up securely and label it with your name and cell phone number (we will have a small number of bags available on the day, but you may prefer your own small zip-able bag, which will be more secure and more easily recognisable to yourself!) The bags will be off loaded at Lochmara Lodge and be available for you on the wharf area when you finish. We will take all care moving the bags but cannot take responsibility.
Are there water stations on the course?
Yes. There will be a water station at Anakiwa, Davies Bay (40mins from the start), Mistletoe Bay (1hr 40mins from the start) and at the finish line. We strongly advise that you carry water with you if it is hot.
Terms and conditions:
We can issue a refund, minus a $20 admin fee up until 30th September 2024. From 1st October 2024 onward we do not issue refunds.
In the unfortunate event that we have to cancel the race through circumstances beyond our control (i.e. natural disaster) we would endeavour to return entry fees, less costs already incurred.
What do I receive to confirm my entry?
You will receive an email from our Race Secretary confirming your entry within 24/48 hours of entering through our website. You will then further emails closer to race day.
What to carry with you
Listen to a weather forecast on Friday to give you some idea as to what to expect. Regardless we strongly recommend you run with a light pack (camel pack or bumbag) carrying:
- thermal top
- drink bottle
- gu or leppin or energy food
- cell phone (though this is a limited reception area)
Will the race be timed?
Yes.
Can I buy something to eat and drink when I arrive at Lochmara?
Yes, the Lochmara cafe will be operating as normal and has a delicious menu. There will a special menu option on the day for a small price as part of the event but you can also order from the normal menu, available from 11.30am.
Where can I park my car?
There is ample parking off Wellington Street, close to the meeting point, which costs $6 approx. for the day in the pay and display car park. Otherwise there is some road side parking along Waikawa Road or Wellington Street (above Waikawa Road), which is unlimited time wise.
